Five ways to make sure your child is eating enough

It can be hard to get toddlers to eat at the best of times – but the infant and toddler forum revealed what they should be eating and the portion sizes may just surprise you…

 

1) Food group 1 – Bread, cereals potatoes

Food group 1

0.5 to 1.5 egg-sized potatoes

0.5 to 1 medium slice of bread

1 to 4 tablespoons mash potato

2 to 5 tablespoons of rice

4 chips

 

2) Food group 2 – Fruit and vegetables

0.25 to 1 medium banana

3 to 10 medium grapes of berries

0.5 to 1 Kiwi fruit or mandarin

0.5 to 2 tablespoons of peas

2 to 6 carrot sticks

 

3) Food group 3 – Milk and cheese

Food group 3

 

1 pot of yoghurt (125ml)

100 to 120ml of milk

1 triangle of Dairylea

1 Cheesestring

1 Mini Babybel

 

4) Food group 4 – Meat, fish, eggs, nuts and pulses

Food group 4

0.5 to 1 poached or boiled egg

0.25 to 1 medium sausage

0.5 to 1.5 small slices of ham

0.5 to 1.5 tablespoons of tuna

 

5) Food group 5 – high in sugar or fat

Food group 5

2-4 tablespoons of jelly

0.5 to 1 digestive biscuit

4 to 6 crisps eg Wotsits

2 to 4 squares of chocolate

2 to 4 jelly sweets
